Meet Morenike, a London-based style commentator and creator. Morenike’s as chic as they come, but her niche is unpacking the motivations behind why we wear what we do. She shares styling tips and insights on Instagram, TikTok, and in her weekly newsletter, Moresque.
I featured Morenike in one of my first newsletters, so let this be your sign to meet your idols!
This week, she’s bottled up some of her fashion wisdom with a guide to finding your personal style. Enjoy!
That’s Niche: Finding Your Personal Style
Morenike’s Expertise
In 2020, I started an Instagram styling/storytelling page called Moresque, which was very Sex and the City coded but for the modern woman. I loved connecting with people and having a community of like-minded people!
I have now pivoted to a weekly newsletter and TikTok to communicate my passion for style and the development of style in a sustainable and intentional manner.
Here’s how I stay inspired when it comes to personal style.
Stay curious.
Keeping an open mind and always looking for inspiration is key. Inspiration has many faces from the movies one watches, the art exhibitions they go to and the people they see on the street. Don’t limit the sources of your inspiration and this will lead to a more unique manifestation of your style.
Embrace trial and error.
Many terrible outfits have led to me understanding what I like and what makes me feel good!
Be unrelenting in the pursuit of self-understanding.
Through this, I have come to understand the part that style plays into how well we know ourselves and the message we want to convey.
Revisit your influences.
Watching Sex and the City every year which never fails to give me style inspiration.
Treat everything as inspo.
Living in 5 countries and being exposed to a range of cultures allowed me to develop a varied set of inspirations and an openness to new influences.
Misc Recs
Unrelated things Morenike likes that you might, too
🥀 A Court Of Thorns & Roses
ACOTAR changed my life last year. It is a 5 book fantasy series and I think it has a lot of good lessons on how to advocate for yourself and find strength in hardship. It also has hot men which makes everything better.
🎸 Old School Rock
I am in an old school rock phase at the moment and loving Lover, You Should’ve Come Over by Jeff Buckley and There is a Light That Never Goes Out by The Smiths.
I’m loving this playlist at the moment too:
📿 Headspace App
One of my 2024 ins is meditation in order to self soothe and have more control over my emotions and how I react to situations. I am loving headspace for this.
❤️🔥 Simple Passion
Annie Ernaux’s book, Simple Passion, is anything but. This book is for my insane girlies who can not simple be into something but want to crawl into it’s skin and set up shop. 10/10 recommend.
So there you go! Now go forth, listen to rock and wear something fab. See you next week for some (incredibly) niche recipe content from Ori Tom Ravid at Raddichio Salad. Ciao!
